I know that my upcoming poetry collection, A Bright Light in a Dark World, isn't as popular or as anticipated as my other upcoming book this year, Us Against Them. However, A Bright Light in a Dark World is coming along very nicely! It has been quite challenging but I'm glad that I'm sticking with it.
For those of you who aren't aware, it is based on this crazy writing challenge I did in February 2025. I said that I would write a positive, encouraging, uplifting poem every day for 200 days! And I just surpassed the halfway point today! Can you believe that I've written the 101st poem today? Just 99 more poems to go! I'll be finished with this project in September 2025! It should be released in October 2025 or November 2025.
If you know me, then you know that I don't write positive, encouraging, or uplifting poetry. My second poetry collection, Reflections of a Broken Woman, is the type of poetry that I write - depressing, sad, moody, and bleak. Writing a positive poem every day for 200 days is extremely challenging for me. There are two reasons why I decided to do such a challenge:
- 2025 is a terrible year, especially for those of us living in the United States. I wanted to give the world something positive to read in such a dark, depressing, and dystopian time. We could all use a little encouragement and positivity.
- I wanted to prove to myself that I can commit to a writing project and do it in less than a year, especially since I've struggled to write Us Against Them for 9 years.
I'm very proud of my progress. This will be a very interesting year for me, at least for writing. I'll have two books out that are completely different from each other: a dystopian horror novel and a positive poetry collection.
