I had posted last month on my social media about the dictatorship deporting anyone they think isn't a citizen. I got some very stupid replies from Republicans/Drumpfers, so I had to delete the original post and then I reposted it, with comments turned off. As you probably know, I was not born in the United States. I came to the US when I was 3 years old. I can claim American citizenship through my mother, who is an American citizen. I have a US passport, a US social security number, a consular report for citizens born abroad, and I'm registered to vote. I couldn't have/do any of those things if I weren't an American citizen.
But, according to Republicans/Drumpfers, I'm not a citizen simply because I wasn't born in the United States. To be honest, I guess it doesn't matter that I'm an American citizen because this dictatorship is even deporting citizens. That is my fear. I'm not afraid of being deported back to the country I was born in - it doesn't exist anymore, but it and the successor country are decent countries. I just don't speak the language. The same thing with the administrative/political enclave that I lived in - which also no longer exists. They could deport me there, I just don't speak the language. I don't even care if they deport me to the other country that I lived in right before I came to the US. It's not that bad. My fear is that they will deport me to a horrible place like that concentration camp in El Salvador.
Every time a Republican is "president," my citizenship is threatened. But, when a Democrat is president, my citizenship is just fine. Obviously, the Republicans can't/don't/won't read the Constitution. They don't follow the laws. They have one set of rules for them and a different set of rules for everyone. That's how we got stuck with this dictatorship. They are willing to give Drumpf complete, absolute, and unchecked power despite the Constitution prohibiting that. The US even had a big war with the UK so that they wouldn't have a king anymore. So, what was the whole point of the Revolutionary War if the Republicans want Drumpf to be the king? The Constitution is the law of the land, not Drumpf. Drumpf also has to follow the rulings of the Supreme Court. He is not above the law, though he thinks he is.
I never did this before, but now I'm carrying my passport with me. I used to only take my passport with me if I was filing out a job application and I needed to prove my citizenship. Now, just to be able to survive in this damn dictatorship, I need my passport on me at all times. I'm also thinking about getting a certified copy of my consular report and carrying that with me, too. It's really ridiculous that I have to do any of this, but the dictator has left me with no choice.
These are very scary times. I'm living in fear every day. I really don't know if we're going to survive this. I'm doing the best that I can, but I'm overwhelmed.
